The film Sniper: Ghost Shooter surprisingly climbed the ranks on Netflix‘s top ten list and made it all the way to the top four on the streaming platform.

As of today, the film currently sits at number eight on the trending list and has beat out the ranks of many other new releases that we expected to make it on the top ten list including Friends with Benefits, Prank Encounters season 2, and Legally Blonde. 

A film has to be really interesting if it could beat out Reese Witherspoon and Mila Kunis, so just what is this 2016 film about?

Sniper: Ghost Shooter is a direct-to-video film about professional and talented snipers who are assigned to protect the United States from deadly terrorists. More on what the film is about in the official synopsis below:

"Snipers ordered to protect a gas pipeline from terrorists suspect a security breach when they’re targeted by a ghost shooter that knows their location."

This film is the sixth installment of the Sniper film series that has been running ever since 1993 with Sniper. The five films that come before Ghost Shooter also include Sniper 2, Sniper 3, Sniper: Reloaded, and Sniper: Legacy. 

Additionally, this movie serves as a predecessor to the seventh and eighth installment of the series which are titled Sniper: Ultimate Kill and Sniper: Assassin’s End. Those pictures were released in in 2017 and 2020, respectively

If you’re not familiar with the Sniper series, you can liken these films to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the Fast and Furious franchise in that the films build off of the previous film and ultimately, tells a story. This means if you’re planning on watching the 2016 film, you may want to watch its predecessors first.

The cast for Sniper: Ghost Shooter is led by Chad Michael Collins, who has been in the film franchise since 2011. It also includes Titanic and Twin Peaks actor Billy Zane, Dennis Haysbert and The Walking Dead actor Nick Gomez.

Sniper: Ghost Shooter is an action-packed, thrilling, and exciting film and the trailer exhibits just that.
